The June Bug Dress Pattern Remix - PR&P

I'm not one of the contestants on Project Run and Play, but that sure isn't stopping me from playing along and entering the side contest! The first challenge is to take the June Bug dress by Jess of Craftiness is Not Optional and to change it up.

This is the materials that I used:

A couple of curtains and what's left of a pair of navy cordoroy jeans. (I used the other leg of the cordoroy jeans for an apron for my sister a while back.)

A closer picture of the two curtains.
Also used, but not pictured is one side of a duvet cover.

Please excuse the wrinkles - I don't usually care for ironing and avoid it when I can! And since these two pieces are the exact same size, and the exact sizes I needed, I didn't worry about the wrinkles warping the size of the fabric too much. Also excuse the picture quality for the ones above. Taking these pictures was an after thought, and my camera batteries were dead, so I used my phone.

I turned those things into this! I used the top part of the June Bug Dress to make the top of the jumper, and a pattern I'm testing for Little Lizard King for cargo pants for the pants part.

A fun jumper that is perfect for wearing while doing the laundry. Even if doing the laundry just means airing out your tutu skirt, super hero cape, and other fun clothes in the nice crisp air!

The fine whale cordoroy pants left over was turned into the top part. The buttons holding on the loops to hang the curtains were used for the closures. I cut in the bodice through the arm holes so it wouldn't be so wide. The loops themselves were used at the shoulders to make adjustable ties. The cordoroy goes vertically on the back and the two front side panels, and horizontally in the center panel.

I added a couple of the loops to the back of the bodice to serve as ties to tighten it up.

A closeup view of the bodice front. I added a pocket on top of where the blanket is using the duvet cover. I also added the dragonfly button.

I used the duvet cover to also make useable cuffs for the bottom of the pant legs. The cuffs at the bottom of the pant legs, combined with the ties at the shoulder, and the generous width of whole thing means this should last about a year! I also added a butterfly button because it looked like there needed to be one. ;-)

A side view of how cute this outfit is!

A nice view of the pretty flowers that hang out around the bases of the clothes line trees.

And now just a few pictures of how cute she was during this photo shoot....because she is just so cute! ;-)

Sienna Dress Pattern Remix...Kinda

Project Run and Play had a challenge for doing a pattern remix. The pattern was the Sienna Dress by Lil Blue Boo. While I do not have the pattern (hence the "Kinda" in the title of the post!), I DO know how to make them. I create the majority of the patterns I use myself, so I didn't feel the need to buy the Sienna Dress pattern. However, I DO love Lil Blue Boo and all of the amazing stuff she creates. I'm sure her pattern tutorials are just as great as the rest of her tutorials.
I think it's a very cute dress to begin with, but since the challenge was not to make the pattern as-is, but to make it different, I decided to change it up a bit.
I kept the raglan sleeve, but made it a flutter.

I made the length more like a tunic instead of a dress. Although if I made it a size too big for her it would be a dress that she could grow into wearing as a tunic.

And I added layers of ruffles to the booty.

I just LOVE ruffles on the booty. Especially for little ones!
I know it isn't a huge leap away from the original Sienna Dress pattern, but I think it's enough different to be considered a remix. And I love the way it turned out so much that I put it in the 3Giraffes Etsy shop!

Project Run and Play Update

I had FULLY intended to play along with Project Run and Play this go around. So far that hasn't really happened. But this weeks theme was upcycling. Well if there's one thing I am good at it's taking one thing and turning it into something else!
I didn't take pictures of the process, but I did take pictures of the finished product!
I used a pajama top for the front, a vintage shirt for the back, a blue sheet and a red and pink duvet cover for the layered peekaboo skirt, and a ribbed t-shirt for the neck and arm bands. The only thing new on this adorable dress is the ribbon tie. (more after the pictures)
Such a cute little girl...I think she looks like a pixie.

The unicorns are my favorite part of this whole dress!!

Originally this was made for my youngest daughter...mostly because I love unicorns and really wanted to make something for her with them. However after looking in her closet, and seeing all of the clothes she already has, I think I would be better off selling it. She really doesn't wear all of the clothes she already owns enough! So into my shop it goes...
Sometime in the near future will be a tutorial on how to make a peekaboo skirt. Maybe I should instill Tutorial Tuesday?

Project Run and Play Season 2

OHHH! How excited I am to be able to get to see all the fun and excitement that is Project Run and Play again! I loved the friendly competition in the first "season" and I'm sure this one will be great too!
Maybe this time I will play along and try to make my own versions of things for the challenges ahead? We'll see. I'm horrible about blogging (yeah, shocker, right!? My last post was months ago!) but maybe if I play along it will "force" me to blog more often. I have many things I've been working on, and a few blog posts I want to do. I just have to find the time to do it all! Can we please make a day last 40 hours instead of just 24, and a week to be 10 days instead of 7? OK? Thanks! haha!
So here's to a 3/4 of the year is now over resolution to blog more often and to play along! Wish me luck!
P.S. Maybe I'll try to write a fun post tomorrow. If life cooperates. ;-D
