Alice in Wonderland Party Part 1

So, my daughter turned 11 and had a party. An Alice in Wonderland party. Because she is an enormous Alice fan! I didn't take any pictures of the processes by which I made most things, BUT I do have many pictures of the party! And of the fun items I made/found/bought/traded for!

First I will start with my girls and what they wore.

The birthday girl wanted to be the Mad Hatter, so I made a dress, jacket and hat for her to wear. Her striped petticoat was from her halloween costume last year.

The top of the dress was made using an oversized t-shirt that was screen printed with suspenders, buttons down the center, and a bowtie. I had to cut off the bow tie and then applique it on after I had the dress made since the shirt was so large.

The skirt was made from a super soft lime green microfiber sheet with embossing in it. And fun pick-ups using ribbon to show off the striped pettiskirt.

I just so happened to find the PERFECT fabric for the jacket in the clearance section of JoAnn's a few days before the party.

For my younger daughter I made an Alice dress, apron, and bloomers. I had already made the hair clip.

The whole outfit together! The apron is a separate piece so that it can be removed if wanted. The skirt of the dress is made from a beautifully embroidered, very soft, upcycled sheet.

A ruffle added for cuteness. And the lace strip down the middle has sequins on it! :)

Together they looked completely adorable!

The Most Comfy Fancy Layers...

...and velvet cheetah print ultra ruffle pants.

I modeled this dress after a beautiful digital stamp from Krista at Saturated Canary (you can buy it in her Etsy shop here).

 

I thought she was super cute and reminded me SO MUCH of my little girl. Those big eyes, that crazy curly hair, her whole look. So cute. So her. :) I loved the idea of all the layers, and all of the potential for cuteness that was there.

I used layers of random fabrics cut to angles and individually sewn down. I wanted the colors to all look pretty together, but not necessarily match perfectly.

 The back is a beautiful raspberry purple color. The neckline is made from the softest velvet ever in a beautiful cheetah print that ties together at the back of the shoulder.

I used the same velvet cheetah fabric to make these pants that have a wonderful ruffle at the bottom. The waistband is my favorite kind for kids clothes - a yoga style fold-over one so that if your little one suddenly grows another inch or two taller the pants can still be worn!

I love how different this outfit is, and also how amazingly versatile. The dress and the pants can be worn together, or separately. With a long sleeved shirt and tights, or not! With the foldover waistband on the pants and the roomy arm holes on the dress, it can last through a few seasons, and a couple sizes too!

Update: I've added a few more sizes of the pants, as well as the dress! I'm going to keep adding until I've got a nice variety of sizes. I'm also thinking of doing this in a different color scheme...mmmmmm LOVE this dress so so much!! <3 Believe me when I say it's even prettier in person.

Sienna Dress Pattern Remix...Kinda

Project Run and Play had a challenge for doing a pattern remix. The pattern was the Sienna Dress by Lil Blue Boo. While I do not have the pattern (hence the "Kinda" in the title of the post!), I DO know how to make them. I create the majority of the patterns I use myself, so I didn't feel the need to buy the Sienna Dress pattern. However, I DO love Lil Blue Boo and all of the amazing stuff she creates. I'm sure her pattern tutorials are just as great as the rest of her tutorials.
I think it's a very cute dress to begin with, but since the challenge was not to make the pattern as-is, but to make it different, I decided to change it up a bit.
I kept the raglan sleeve, but made it a flutter.

I made the length more like a tunic instead of a dress. Although if I made it a size too big for her it would be a dress that she could grow into wearing as a tunic.

And I added layers of ruffles to the booty.

I just LOVE ruffles on the booty. Especially for little ones!
I know it isn't a huge leap away from the original Sienna Dress pattern, but I think it's enough different to be considered a remix. And I love the way it turned out so much that I put it in the 3Giraffes Etsy shop!

Project Run and Play Update

I had FULLY intended to play along with Project Run and Play this go around. So far that hasn't really happened. But this weeks theme was upcycling. Well if there's one thing I am good at it's taking one thing and turning it into something else!
I didn't take pictures of the process, but I did take pictures of the finished product!
I used a pajama top for the front, a vintage shirt for the back, a blue sheet and a red and pink duvet cover for the layered peekaboo skirt, and a ribbed t-shirt for the neck and arm bands. The only thing new on this adorable dress is the ribbon tie. (more after the pictures)

Such a cute little girl...I think she looks like a pixie.

The unicorns are my favorite part of this whole dress!!

Originally this was made for my youngest daughter...mostly because I love unicorns and really wanted to make something for her with them. However after looking in her closet, and seeing all of the clothes she already has, I think I would be better off selling it. She really doesn't wear all of the clothes she already owns enough! So into my shop it goes...
Sometime in the near future will be a tutorial on how to make a peekaboo skirt. Maybe I should instill Tutorial Tuesday?

The Swing Dress

I just wanted to officially introduce a new design - the Swing Dress!
The Swing Dress is a super cute, very comfortable dress now, shirt later! We love making things that can last a long time. We know how it feels to having growing children! There are no buttons, snaps, zippers, ties, or even hooks to mess with on this dress. You just slip it on the same way you would a shirt, and voila! Instant cuteness! This dress looks amazing for photo shoots, but does equally well running errands.
Currently we are only offering the swing dress in the Purple Dotted version in the Etsy shop as RTS (Ready To Ship). There will be more versions of this dress offered soon!
There is also a bloomer that coordinates with the Swing Dress being offered in the shop. The bloomer is MTO (Made to Order) since there is a limited amount of the fabric used for it. But I'm on the hunt for more fabric that would coordinate for a second bloomer option, so keep your eyes on the shop! There will also be a coordinating Little Guy Bow Tie offered soon.
